For all others though the decision is up to you.
Double vision after squint surgery. Double vision diplopia is common after squint surgery. It is usually quite transient. A small number of older children usually over 10 to 12 years of age will experience more troublesome double vision.
Double vision this usually passes after a week or so but can last longer. Youll be asked to attend visits with an eye specialist after surgery. Contact them the hospital or a GP if you have any severe or lasting side effects from surgery.
Returning to normal activities. After you take the squint surgery it is normal for you to get double vision as the side effect because of the dryness of the eyes. If you treat it well with the good care it will be temporary and be recovered soon.
You need to have the good rest for the eyes. You could use the eye drops to moisture the eyes. In addition you could also use the warm compress to release the symptom.
Double vision after cataract surgery is so common as to be normal. In surgery because the eyes diverge exotropia or wall eyes it actually improves the success. Eye muscle surgery is very unique and individualistic and it is not possible to generalize.
Eventually there is usually little visible evidence that you have had squint surgery. The position of your eyes may vary over the first few weeks following surgery and will take time to settle. Immediately after surgery you may experience fleeting double vision this should resolve quickly and it is important you do your best to ignore the second image and avoid looking for it.
Post-operative double vision. Older children may experience some double vision after the operation. This is usually short-lived whilst the childs brain re-adjusts to the new eye position.
Before surgery the Orthoptist will test to see if this is likely to be a problem but. One of the patients who experienced permanent double vision after surgery had a best-corrected visual acuity of 20200 in the deviating eye. During the time span covered by this study I cared for an additional 19 patients who would have met the inclusion criteria but decided not to undergo surgery owing to the risk of postoperative diplopia.
However sometimes double vision will take a few days to weeks to resolve even with successful surgery. If double vision was not present before surgery it may even be an encouraging sign. It is after all the brain perceiving images simultaneously.
Rarely the white part of the eye does not fully return to its normal colour. Eventually there is usually little visible evidence that they have had squint surgery. The position of your childs eyes may vary over the first few weeks immediately after surgery and will take time to settle.
Immediately after surgery your child may complain of occasional double vision. The temporalis muscle was probably cut for the surgery which assists in eating but should heal over time stretching and exercising the muscle is a good idea. This is not usually a big problem in the long term.
The double vision could have a variety of causes. Some bleeding over the white part of the eye. If non-surgical treatments dont work surgery may be recommended to improve the alignment of the eyes and help them work together.
Surgery involves moving the muscles attached to the outside of the eye to a new position. Children may experience double vision if eyes cross inward after surgery. This usually clears in three weeks as the crossing goes away.
Usually wait two weeks after surgery before resuming patching or Atropine for amblyopia. Strabismus surgery may be ideal for individuals who experience the following symptoms. Weakness surrounding the eye or a pulling sensation around the eyes.

Sometimes people experience double vision after squint surgery. This could be totally new double vision or just a different type of double vision from what they noticed before. Often this is just a sign that the brain has noticed that the eye position has changed and is learning how to deal with the new images it receives from the eyes.
Sometimes double vision occurs as an expected outcome in the first few days following surgery an especially common occurrence with certain kinds of adult strabismus. Obviously those experiencing double vision should not drive until this symptom has resolved. For all others though the decision is up to you.
There is no hard and fast rule for. Squint surgery is not performed inside the eye itself. A very small number of people experience some double vision after squint surgery.
The risk of this happening will be discussed with you before surgery both at the time when you are put on the waiting list and again at the pre-operative assessment. The double vision may last from a few. Some patients also experience double vision after squint surgery.
This is usually a signal that the brain realizes the eye has moved and needs to learn this new position and readjust accordingly. This should settle within a few weeks and require no further treatment. You may experience double vision after surgery as your brain adjusts to the new position of the eyes.

Some patients may continue to experience double vision when they look to the side in order to achieve a good effect when the eyes look straight ahead. First few weeks immediately after surgery and will take time to settle.
They may also have some awareness of double vision seeing two of things. Try to discourage your child from rubbing their eyes as this could cause irritation and increases the risk of infection. Avoid irritants such as soap and shampoo getting into their eyes.
Sometimes there is a mild temporary over-correction following surgery which can result in double vision. A change in the glasses prescription use of a stick-on prism on the glasses andor orthoptic exercises can help this. If the over-correction persists further surgery or Botulinum toxin injection to the eye muscles might be required.
Even if the surgery manages to correct the eye turn that doesnt mean the patients vision is corrected. Without improved functional vision its possible for the strabismus to return thus the need for repeated surgery. With vision therapy you address the underlying issue.
Improved utilization of vision. Where realignment is more difficult your ophthalmologist may use adjustable sutures to reattach the muscle to the eyeball. These sutures allow the eye to be further aligned several hours after squint eye surgery.
Adjustments are performed while you are awake to improve the cosmetic result and reduce the risk of double vision. A slipped or lost eye muscle muscle scarring or making a hole in the eye with a needle. How soon will I recover.
You should be able to go home after a few hours. Do not swim or lift anything heavy until you have checked with your surgeon. Regular exercise should help you to return to normal activities as soon as possible.
